Test & Balance is a one-off water-chemistry visit. For regular pool maintenance, start with a Scoop & Sweep or Premium Pool Service visit. While we’re there, we’ll agree a regular schedule with you: fortnightly, three-weekly or four-weekly, depending on what the pool needs.
After every visit, we let you know what we found — any water-quality issues and, on a Scoop & Sweep or Premium visit, any equipment faults or repairs we’d recommend.
Sydney Pool and Gas Heating is Shane and the team, and Shane is on the tools himself.
All three visits test and balance the water. They differ in how much of the cleaning we do.
Not sure which suits your pool? Call 0422 302 722 and we’ll suggest one.
A clogged filter can’t keep the water clean. The pump keeps running, but less water gets through, and the pool can turn cloudy.
What a filter needs depends on the type. A sand or glass filter is backwashed: water runs backwards through it and flushes the trapped dirt out. A cartridge filter is taken out and hosed clean. A pressure gauge reading higher than normal is the common sign it’s due.
Want the filter sorted? Book a Scoop & Sweep ($99 plus chemicals): the filter is backwashed or cleaned as required, along with the baskets, brushing and water balance. Test & Balance covers water chemistry only, so it doesn’t include the filter.
If the filter itself is damaged, or water is visibly leaking from it, that’s a repair visit: from $99, with no separate call-out fee. Parts are extra.
A pump that stops, equipment that won’t run, or water that’s turned green — call 0422 302 722, tell us what’s happening, and we’ll arrange a time to come out. Here’s what each costs.
From $99 per repair visit
For a pump, filter, chlorinator or salt cell that has stopped working.
There’s no separate call-out or diagnostic fee — the $99 is the repair visit itself. Parts, if needed, are extra.
From $150 labour + the pump
When a pump can’t be repaired.
The pump and any extra parts are charged separately, and the pump is priced before any work starts.
From $199 + chemicals
For a pool that has turned green.
Price varies with pool size and condition. Severely neglected pools are quoted after an on-site look, and severe cases may need follow-up visits at extra cost — we’ll advise you after the first service.
A gas pool heater is the one piece of pool equipment that needs a gas licence to work on: in NSW, gas work on it — the burner, the gas valve and the gas supply — has to be done by a licensed gas fitter. We hold that licence (NSW 498373C).
We service and repair all major gas pool heater brands — Astral, Hayward, Hurlcon and Pentair among them — and pool-heater customers have come to us after other companies couldn’t help. So if a maintenance visit turns up a heater fault, you don’t need to find a second tradie.
A gas pool heater should be serviced once a year, before the swim season. Our pool heater service and repair page covers what a service includes, the common faults and the prices.
Shane, from the Sydney Pool and Gas Heating team, on the tools — servicing a Pentair gas pool heater.

“Shane came to service my Jetmaster fireplace recently. He arrived on time and did a great job, was very neat and tidy and extremely professional. I had complete confidence in his skills and would happily recommend him to anyone.” — Sue Hind
“Shane serviced our Escea gas fireplace and did an excellent job. Shane was very thorough and worked efficiently. He was on time, very professional and polite. I will definitely use Shane for the annual service going forward and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.” — S Austin
How much does pool maintenance cost on the Northern Beaches?
Each visit has its own price, plus chemicals: Test & Balance is $69, Scoop & Sweep is $99 and Premium Pool Service is $149. Prices are for standard residential pools; a heavily soiled or green pool is quoted separately.
How much does pool maintenance cost per month?
It’s the visit price times the number of visits, plus chemicals. Fortnightly is 26 visits a year, so fortnightly Scoop & Sweep averages about $215 a month; four-weekly (13 visits a year) averages about $105 a month. A regular visit is a Scoop & Sweep or a Premium Pool Service — Test & Balance is a one-off.
How often should my pool be serviced?
Fortnightly, three-weekly or four-weekly — we agree which with you on your first visit. Leaves, how much the pool is used and whether it has a cover all change how often it needs a visit.
Are chemicals included in the price?
No. Every visit price is plus chemicals. They’re charged separately and priced on the day, because what the water needs depends on the test.
Do you look after salt water pools?
Yes. Test & Balance and Premium Pool Service both check the salt level, and Premium also cleans the salt cell as required — a cell coated in scale makes less chlorine.
Can you fix my pool pump or heater too?
Yes. A pump or other equipment fault is a repair visit: from $99, with no separate call-out fee, plus any parts. A pump that can’t be repaired is replaced from $150 labour plus the pump, and the pump is priced before any work starts. We service and repair gas pool heaters too — see our pool heater service page.
My pool has turned green — can you help?
Yes. That starts with a Green Pool Recovery, from $199 plus chemicals. The price varies with the pool’s size and condition, and a severely neglected pool is quoted once we’ve seen it. Once the water is clear, regular visits help keep it that way.
Buying a property with a pool? A pre-purchase pool inspection tells you what condition the pool and its equipment are in — and what any equipment repairs or replacements are likely to cost — before you commit. It’s a flat $249.
You get a written report with estimated repair or replacement costs for the equipment that needs work, photos of significant defects, and the age and model of the equipment where it can be identified.
What we check:
This is an equipment and condition inspection. It is not a pool barrier (fence) compliance certificate.
In NSW, the contract to sell or lease a property with a pool must include a pool barrier certificate, which only the local council or a registered swimming pool certifier can issue. Our report covers the pool and its equipment, not the fence. The NSW Government explains the rules on its pool owner obligations page.
To book an inspection, call 0422 302 722.
Our pool visits cover the Northern Beaches — Manly, Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why, Collaroy, Narrabeen, Mona Vale, Warriewood, Newport, Avalon Beach, Palm Beach, Frenchs Forest, Belrose and Terrey Hills — as well as the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore.
We also look after gas fireplaces and gas heaters for regular customers on the beaches, in Balgowlah, Manly, Freshwater and Avalon Beach. Gas work on a heater is done by a licensed gas fitter (NSW 498373C); pool visits are done by our technicians.
