Gas fireplace not lighting, cutting out, or overdue its annual service? Sydney Pool and Gas Heating are licensed gas fitters servicing and repairing gas fireplaces across the Inner West and inner Sydney — most faults found and fixed in a single visit.
Most Inner West calls start with one of these:
Inner West houses are old and so are their fireplaces. One job this year opened with “not serviced in 7 years”; another was a Jetmaster over 30 years old, still going.
Every service runs the same sequence, and you’re told what was found:
Most calls are on a fireplace that was already in the house. The ones that come up most:
Parts are genuine, and where a part has to be ordered you’re told the cost before it is. If yours isn’t on this list, call — most gas fireplaces share the same failure points.
Four causes account for most Inner West call-outs:
Diagnosis comes first, not last — and you’re told what failed.
What moves the price: the appliance, what’s failed, whether parts have to be ordered, and access. All work is covered by a 12-month workmanship warranty.
Booked as a service, with a humming noise the owner had been living with. Inside was heavy dust and hair build-up — it looked like it hadn’t been serviced in years. The fan was so blocked it had been thrown off its bearings, and that was the noise. Fan removed, cleaned, lubricated and reseated, the rest of the unit cleaned out, gas pressures checked. The bearings had worn, so a quote went out for the replacement rather than a surprise on the invoice. Fire left working.
A Real Flame Eureka in for its service. Testing found a faulty thermocouple — the safety device that proves the flame is lit. Supplied and installed on the spot, everything cleaned out, gas pressures and safety devices checked, tested for 15 minutes. No further issues.
Called out to a fire that wasn’t working. The remote was dead — corroded contacts — so the tenant was shown how to run it manually the same day, with a quote to follow for a replacement. Heavy sooting inside. We also found the flue terminal sitting too close to an internal wall, which isn’t to Australian standards, and reported it.
A Jetmaster MK4 850 switching itself off. Dust in the pilot aeration hole — the fire was shutting down exactly as designed. Cleaned out, gas pressures and safety devices checked, run for 15 minutes.
Two fireplaces in one house, booked together. On the Jetmaster the pilot was lighting but the burner wasn’t following it. Both units stripped and cleaned out, gas pressures checked, safety devices confirmed operating, and each run for 15 minutes before we left. Both working.

My gas fire won’t light — what causes that?
